Never be fooled by Abbas
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's efforts to negotiate a Middle East peace deal, declaring that the Palestinians were ready to cooperate with Trump's efforts to broker a regional peace agreement. But what if he's not willing, for example, to stop paying jihadists and their families? The PLO's already made this clear just recently, and meeting with Israeli officials alone won't guarantee anything. The PLO is not a valid political entity.
Last week, the Palestinian Authority president met Trump in Washington.
On Thursday, after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Russia's Black Sea city of Sochi, Abbas expressed willingness to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu under the auspices of the American president.
