Bangladeshi jihadist planted pipebomb near NYC bus and subway terminal
A terrorist detonated a pipe bomb in a subway passage between Times Square and the Port Authority Bus Terminal — one of the busiest transit hubs in the world — during the Monday morning rush-hour, injuring three people and causing commuter chaos. The NYPD's investigating, but who knows if the press will keep focusing on this incident? Soon enough, they'll likely bury the story rather than call for keeping these monsters out of the country. The immigrant himself should be punished severely for his offensive act.
Akayed Ullah, a Bangladeshi native, detonated part of his “low tech” explosive in the passage just 200 feet from the bus terminal at West 42nd St. and Eighth Ave. at 7:20 a.m., officials said. Three commuters suffered minor injuries, officials said.
After the explosion, Port Authority cops struggled with Ullah, 27, who had wires attached to his body, sources said. The device was affixed to his body with Velcro and zip ties, police officials said.
He tried to set off the rest of his bomb, but only part of it went off. Two PAPD officers grabbed him and successfully removed the explosives without further incident. [...]
Ullah was taken to Bellevue Hospital with burns to his hands and abdomen and also lacerations. He is expected to survive, sources said. [...]
Byron Woodhouse, 55, said he saw people sprinting for safety in the wake of the explosion.
“It was loud. It was scary,” he said. “People were running all over the place.”
Ullah has been in the country for about seven years, Bratton said.
