Saudis checkmate themselves for barring Israelis from chess competition

Although there have been ties forming between Israel and Saudi Arabia lately, the latter still won't allow entry to Israelis, and so, a chess tournament's been cancelled there:

The World Chess Federation has barred Saudi Arabia from hosting the next world championship because it won’t let Israelis enter the country to participate.

Despite the covertly warming of diplomatic relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom continues to bar Israelis from entering the country.

Earlier this month, two Israeli nationals petitioned the international chess governing body, fighting the discrimination they faced when prevented from taking part in a chess tournament in Saudi Arabia last year because of their nationality.

Riyadh has now been stripped of the competition, which is likely to be moved to Russia.

And Russia, in all due fairness, is more or less a better place to hold such a tournament than in a country where women still suffer the terrible experience of oppression. That's another reason not to give Saudi Arabia the chance to host the current tournaments.

Simply put, by continuing their anti-Jewish discrimination, the Saudis have moved their chess pieces into a checkmated position.
