Rachel Avraham criticizes Biden for the wrong reasons as part of her obsession with demonizing Armenia
What happened to the Armenians during World War I was tragic, and a special joint historic commission of Armenian and Turkish historians should be established to examine the extent of the tragedy. But what happened to the Armenians during World War I has nothing to do with any state that exists today. The Ottoman Empire no longer exists, and neither modern Turkey nor the fledgling Republic of Azerbaijan are responsible for those atrocities.Wow, she really thinks it's that simple to set up a "joint commission" with Turkey, when the so-called historians of that country aren't cooperating with dhimmis any more than Erdogan's government itself? This has got to be some of the most ignorant arguments I've ever seen, and I may have seen somebody else in the past using it most foolishly. Including the following:
Blaming Turkey or Azerbaijan would be tantamount to blaming Italy for what the Roman Empire did to the people of Judea, or blaming Germany and Austria for the persecution of Ashkenazi Jews during the Renaissance.I guess that means if Sweden hasn't genuinely apologized for their part in the Jewish Holocaust, we shouldn't make our voices heard on the subject either? Uh-huh. Come to think of it, if Turkey hasn't apologized for their role in the 2nd World War, we shouldn't pursue justice on that matter either, right? It's most fascinating to note that the word "Islam" only appears once in the article, in the context of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Very mysterious Avraham's obfuscating the Religion of Peace's role in Medz Yeghern, because that's the carry-over from the tragedy, and the ideology nobody's willing to acknowledge influenced the Ottoman empire at the time.
Since we're on the subject, the Armenian Weekly pointed to failures by Biden's bunch to address the case of Azerbaijan taking POWs and murdering others during Nagorno-Karabakh:
The State Department’s reply to a detailed Armenian Caucus letter was unresponsive to six specific policy priorities raised by over 100 Congressional signatories – failing to address or even mention the plight of over 200 Armenian prisoners of war still being held, abused and killed by the government of Azerbaijan, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).This includes:
1) Prisoners of War: The bipartisan Armenian Caucus letter stressed that Azerbaijan has refused to free Armenian prisoners of war and apprehended civilians.I think brainless baboon Avraham is also decidedly guilty of obscuring these issues. Seriously. In the meantime, this shows that the Armenian community has realists who understand Biden's acknowledgement that Medz Yeghern was a genocide is insufficient when you have modern crises like these turning up.
The State Department entirely ignores Congressional concern for the release of Armenian prisoners of war, failing, in this letter, to even cite their existence, despite sustained Congressional pressure.
2) Azerbaijani and Turkish Aggression: The bipartisan Armenian Caucus letter identified Azerbaijani and Turkish forces as having initiated the September 27, 2020 attack that killed an estimated 5,000 people and forced more than 100,000 ethnic Armenians to flee from Artsakh.
The State Department fails to identify Baku and Ankara as aggressors, choosing instead to speak generically of “last year’s fighting.”
How much more of these divisive, noxious attacks on Armenia is Avraham going to brew up? I have no idea, but I for one certainly won't stand for it, and there's others who thankfully aren't either.
Update: Morton Klein provides a much better argument on how and why it's right to recognize the subject, and a good thing it was brought up in discussion.
