Anthony Blinken believes Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel need "lesson in democracy"
Far-right National Missions Minister Orit Strock criticized US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday, a day after he signaled that the White House is clearly concerned over initiatives by Israel’s new hardline government. What Blinken said apparently has what to do with plans to reform the judiciary. And while Strook's not a saint, the far-right description is entirely unnecessary. It's hardly surprising Blinken could do this. The Democrats have proven bad for Israel, after all, and it's a disgrace that they, much like Israeli leftists, want to undermine Netanyahu's platforms.
“Dear Mr. Blinken, I understand that you decided to give our prime minister a lesson in democracy,” the Religious Zionism lawmaker tweeted.
“Well, democracy is first of all the duty of a country to determine its course according to the votes of its citizens, each of which is given equal weight, without foreign involvement,” Strock wrote.
“Demonstrations, however legitimate they may be, are not equivalent to a ballot,” wrote Strock, in a very rare public rebuking of a senior US official by an Israeli government minister.
Update: and, lest we forget, there's also Blinken's moral equivalence in his statements on the Neve Yaakov terrorist attack to consider:
Blinken again condemned the Neve Yaakov synagogue massacre in which seven Jews were murdered on Friday night, as well as the shooting of a Jewish father and son by the City of David on Saturday. If he's going to keep on with these cliches, he hasn't heard anything constructive at all. This too is a serious disgrace.
He compared the casualties Israel and The Palestinian Authority have sustained the last month saying that "both sides" had lost "many lives," despite the fact that all seven Israelis who were murdered last week were civilians and the fact that the vast majority of Arab casualties have been terrorists or combatants.
According to the Secretary of State, he heard "constructive ideas" to reduce tensions in the region in light of recent deadly incidents, and he would leave some members of his team in the Middle East to continue discussions on those matters.
He further stated that the Biden Administration "opposes anything that puts a two-state solution farther from reach, including settlement expansion, demolitions, evictions, and disturbing the status quo on the Temple Mount." He also included incitement to violence as something the administration opposes.
