Ilhan Omar keeps unrepentantly attacking Jews
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on Monday apologized for antisemitic remarks in which she implied Republicans are being bribed into supporting Israel — but ended her statement by taking a shot at AIPAC, referring to its role in U.S. politics as “problematic.”I think Pelosi's demanding it now isn't enough, because they haven't tried to get Omar off committees. Lee Zeldin doesn't think Omar was convincing:
“Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes,” Omar said in a statement shared to Twitter. “My intention is never to offend my constituents or Jewish Americans as a whole. We have to always be willing to step back and think through criticism, just as I expect people to hear me when others attack me for my identity. This is why I unequivocally apologize.”
“At the same time, I reaffirm the problematic role of lobbyists in our politics, whether it be AIPAC, the NRA or the fossil fuel industry. It’s gone on too long and we must be willing to address it,” the Minnesota Democrat continued.
Earlier Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) insisted that Omar immediately apologize for tweets saying that members of Congress are being paid by a powerful interest group to support Israel.
Zeldin said there is a “double standard” with how Democrats rushed to criticize Rep. Steve King (R-IA) for his white nationalism while they rushed away from condemning Omar’s anti-Semitism, adding he does not think her apology was “sincere.”President Trump's also condemned her:
“The apology itself states that it’s an unequivocal apology, but it’s filled with equivocation,” Zeldin stated.
President Donald Trump addressed the controversy around recent antisemitic statements by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on Monday evening, telling reporters on Air Force One that she should be “ashamed” of what she had said.Including, in two words, "I resign". Exactly what she should be doing already, but alas, the Democrats so far, aren't getting her off committee panels she doesn't belong on. And if not, then they have no defense for what they are now.
“I think she should be ashamed of herself. I think it was a terrible statement and I don’t think her apology was adequate,” the president said, according to a pool report. Asked what Omar should have said instead, Trump answered: “She knows what to say.”
John Nolte has more on the hatemongers the Democrats have come to embrace, and what their terrible policies have led to.
