Zohran Mamdani sponsored bill against NYC synagogues supporting Israel
New York City mayoral primary winner Zohran Mamdani sponsored a bill that would force any New York synagogue or Jewish corporation that gives money to ZAKA, United Hatzalah, or the One Israel Fund to pay a fine of at least $1 million or risk a lawsuit. This is utterly atrocious, and surely illegal to boot. If Mamdani wins the election, it'll be a dark day indeed for the Big Apple. Speaking of which, pollster Mark Penn says Mamdani is a 9-11 moment for the Democrats:
The bill, “Not on our dime!: Ending New York funding of Israeli settler violence act,” was introduced in the New York State Assembly by Mamdani in May 2023 with the aim of prohibiting New York not-for-profit corporations from engaging in unauthorized support of Israeli settlement activity.
Mamdani named the Central Fund of Israel as one of the main targets of the bill, known as the Not on Our Dime Act. However, the original version failed to advance after opposition from legislative leaders.
The group behind the bill then began the process of expanding it in May 2024, before reintroducing it in February 2025, when it was referred to the Committee on Corporations, Authorities, and Commissions.
The bill aims to amend the not-for-profit corporation law by adding a new section 116 that would “prohibit not-for-profit corporations from engaging in unauthorized support of Israeli settlement activity.
“Well, look, this is a 9/11 moment for the Democratic Party in the sense that he’s an antisemitic socialist,” Penn said. “I think you have to throw both of those things at him because he has really not disavowed the global intifada. He has not really disavowed his comments that we should seize the means of production. He is perhaps the most extreme major candidate ever to win such a major office. And the system itself, the primary system, has been hijacked. There normally would have been a runoff, which would have then exposed his views rather than his smiling through the primaries. But I think that it’s absolutely essential here that this not become Mamdani versus Trump. That’s his strategy. If he can get rid of the idea that there are two other candidates or maybe one other candidate opposing him and he’s running against Trump, well, you know, he’ll win that one.”It's scary however one looks at this. If Mamdani wins, it'll be a defeat for victims of September 11, 2001 too.
