The verdict is in: Bill Cosby is GUILTY
Bill Cosby, who once embodied the idealized American father on a wildly popular sitcom, was convicted of sexual assault on Thursday in a high-stakes retrial after a half-dozen women testified that the famed comedian drugged and assaulted them.I'm sure Cosby's team paid that "witness" quite a bundle to perjure herself. Luckily, the jury and judge didn't fall for it.
The jury returned with the guilty verdict Thursday afternoon after a second day of deliberations in which the judge read back testimony of the defense's star witness, who testified that Cosby’s main accuser once said she could frame a “high-profile person.”
The jury was also read back Cosby's deposition testimony from 2005, where the comedian admitted to giving a woman Quaaludes in order to have sex with her.The sad part is he'll surely appeal whatever sentence he gets, because he's got the money for it. For now, this is a victory for his victims, but the problem is he and his legal team will likely do whatever they can to avoid jail time. I figure his productions in Hollywood will continue to plummet in value as more will be discouraged from bothering about the films, TV shows and other items he did in the past.
Cosby, 80, faces a maximum sentence of 10 years and a fine of up to $25,000 on each count.
I also think it's high time Stephen Collins was held accountable and put on trial for his own sex crimes. Isn't that why there's been campaigns to get the statutes of limitations modified so they don't apply to sexual abuse cases? And when is Harvey Weinstein going to be arrested and tried for his own offenses over the years?
Update: on the subject of the Weinstein case, John Sexton at Hot Air has more.
Update 2: NPR says the conviction effectively puts an end to Cosby's career.
