Yuli Edelstein avoids Rabin memorial service because it maintains leftist character

Knesset speaker Edelstein wisely decided to avoid a would-be memorial for Yitzhak Rabin because it'll only serve as a leftist platform:
Knesset Speaker MK Yuli Edelstein turned down an invitation to address next month’s ceremony marking the 23rd anniversary of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination, an event organized by the group Darkenu.Well he did the right thing. The left's continued obsession with legitimizing the PLO is virtually what's driving this whole event, and that's just why it won't work out.
The Rabin memorial over the years has become a highly politicized event used to lash out at right wing and religious bodies in Israel. Although there has been a recent effort to change the event’s theme to one of inclusiveness and national reconciliation.
Edelstein initially accepted a request to speak at the event after organizers said they wanted speakers from across the political spectrum, but when it became apparent that the event would retain its left-wing orientation he backed out.
“I thought that nearly 25 years after the vile assassination we could overcome our political biases and organize an event that would unite people behind the fundamental values of Israeli society. But unfortunately, it seems the readiness for that has not arrived yet,” Edelstein wrote in a letter announcing his cancellation.

Essay Linking Liberal Jews and Anti-Semitism Sparks a Furor
by Patricia Cohen, Published: 2007 January 31
The American Jewish Committee, an ardent defender
of Israel, is known for speaking out against
anti-Semitism, but this advocacy group has
recently stirred up a bitter and emotional
debate with a new target: liberal Jews.
An essay the committee features on its Web site,
ajc.org, titled “ ‘Progressive’ Jewish Thought
and the New Anti-Semitism,” says a number of Jews,
through their speaking and writing, are feeding
a rise in virulent anti-Semitism by questioning
whether Israel should even exist.
