Underaged Afghan girl sold into child bride marriage lucky to be freed
A movement to protect girls in Muslim countries from being sold into child marriage has had success in freeing one from such captivity:
A 9-year-old child bride from Afghanistan has been returned to her family after she was witnessed being sold in November by CNN.It would seem the Taliban's not particularly interested in preventing it now, and despite what was reported earlier, it's possible they never actually prevented it, and the US simply never tried to reverse a horrifying situation that was already there. Which only compounds how atrocious this whole situation really was in the first place. It's lucky this girl was saved. But there's many more children in countries like Afghanistan who're going to need saving from the Religion of Peace now.
A U.S. based non-profit, Too Young To Wed (TYTW), helped free Parwana Malik from the marriage and returned her to her family, CNN reported Friday.
“I am really happy,” Malik said after being rescued. “The (charity) rid me from my husband and my husband is old,” CNN reported.
Malik is one of many young girls that have been sold to older Afghani men in order for their families to eat due to an ever worsening economic situation, CNN reported. [...]
Marriage under the age of 15 is illegal in Afghanistan according to the outlet, but it has become more common as families in the country become increasingly desperate following the Biden administration’s fumbled withdrawal of American forces in August, compounded by economic decline.
