Leftist US government opposes what Bezalel Smotrich now has influence over
The US warned against annexation as Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich on Thursday was given power over civilian life in Area C of the West Bank.If faux-president Biden's administration is against Israelis living in Judea/Samaria, which the Post continues to describe as "west bank", how can one call them "allies"? Just like the paper to insult intellects for the sake of a far-left agenda.
The Civil Administration at the same time advanced plans for 7,157 new settler homes and prepared to push forward with the contentious E1 project.
It was a triple blow to both the Palestinian Authority and Israel’s Western allies, primarily the US, which has pressured Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from activity that creates obstacles to the eventual creation of a two-state solution.
Netanyahu had assured his allies that he had the final say on all matters relating to Area C, and, initially, it appeared as if he did not intend to make good on his coalition pledge to empower Smotrich.I guess they don't think Netanyahu should respect his electorate in Judea/Samaria either. Because he does have some there. And what kind of "allies" take such an approach to lecturing what he can or cannot do?
After a protracted negotiation, Netanyahu and Smotrich came to an agreement on the matter Thursday. Netanyahu left the elaboration of the details up to Smotrich, who issued a message of jubilation.
Israeli “citizens of Judea and Samaria will receive equal treatment and equal citizenship,” he said.
“We have a long road ahead of us, but this is a celebratory day for the residents of Judea and Samaria and... for the State of Israel,” he added.
This in many ways also stems from how the USA responded to the judicial reform process now being worked on:
On Monday, Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu drew a red line for the Biden administration after the US joined the United Nations Security Council's condemnation of settlements. Netanyahu's response was all but expected due to the US blatantly interfering in Israel's internal affairs on the issue of judicial reforms.Of course, with the USA heading downhill morally, culturally and otherwise these days, one can only wonder how much longer it can be considered a democracy. There's only so many things that sadly don't end well.
The response was long overdue. It was triggered by the US letting the Security Council come out with a statement that ignores Palestinian terrorist attacks and the glorification of terrorism and terrorists in the Palestinian Authority and the daily incitement to murder Jews daily.
It seems that the "greatest democracy in the world" unfortunately bears its name in vain. It does not respect Israel's election results nor the internal democratic process that took place and is taking place here. Moreover, in the last few months, the Biden administration's assertion that the US support of and cooperation with Israel are based only on "shared democratic values" is clearly not true. The US invests in Israel not only because of the shared values but mainly due to shared interests – which are numerous and diverse.
