Trump demands foreign countries stop with their efforts to stifle free speech
0 Comments Published by Avi Green on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 7:59 AM.President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to other governments against undermining American tech companies’ ability to platform free speech and protect U.S. customers and sovereignty. This is definitely saying something. All foreign governments who're engaging in censorship of their citizenry must stop and withdraw all laws they're passing to that effect if they don't want Trump making it harder for them. And there's still much more that can be done.
Late on Monday, Trump posted his hard-hitting caution on Truth Social against foreign legislation “designed to harm, or discriminate against, American Technology.” He clarified that he will be using tariffs to punish nations with governments that ignore his warning. [...]
Trump then made clear the penalty foreign nations would face if they continue pressuring American tech companies with fines if they fail to censor online speech. The president stated, “With this TRUTH, I put all Countries with Digital Taxes, Legislation, Rules, or Regulations, on notice that unless these discriminatory actions are removed, I, as President of the United States, will impose substantial additional Tariffs on that Country's Exports to the U.S.A., and institute Export restrictions on our Highly Protected Technology and Chips.”
